Dr. Jyn Schultze-Melling

Jyn is an internationally recognized privacy expert. He joined EY Law in Berlin as an Associated Partner to return to his advisory roots, counselling his clients as a DPO coach and GDPR implementation strategy consultant. Until recently, he was Facebook's Director for Privacy Policy for Europe and worked at the Social Network's headquarter office in Dublin, steering the company's policy efforts in data protection and privacy all over Europe. Before that, he served as the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) of the Allianz group, the German multinational financial services company headquartered in Munich, Germany, and before that as head of the employee privacy division of Deutsche Bahn AG, a major multinational transportation and logistics group with nearly 300.000 employees worldwide. He studied law and earned his Ph.d. degree at the University of Freiburg and completed an additional masters degree in IT and telecommunications law at the Strathclyde University of Glasgow, UK.

Martin Jarrold has worked for GVF for more than 15 years, having been appointed GVF Chief of International Programme Development in June 2001. His particular responsibilities include outreach to the member organisations of the GVF and for the further development of the profile of the Forum within the satellite communications industry, and across the global telecommunications policy and regulatory community. This extends to the development and delivery of programmes focused on extending the understanding of, and promoting the use of, satellite-based communications in various key end-user vertical markets. Mr. Jarrold is Chairman of the GVF Oil & Gas Communications Conference Series, the GVF Broadband Maritime Conference Series, as well as of GVF's Connectivity, HTS (London), and AeroConnect events. Felipe Pathé Duarte

Felipe Pathé Duarte, 1980, is assistant professor at the Higher Institute of Police Sciences and Internal Security (Lisbon), and consultant/researcher at VisionWare (for Geopolitical analysis). He is a post-doc researcher at the OBSERVARE – Autonomous University of Lisbon, with a project on euro-Mediterranean security. Felipe is also an analyst for international security at RTP, the public service broadcasting. He holds a PhD and a MA in Political Science and International Relations from the Institute of Political Studies of the Catholic University of Portugal, and he graduated in Philosophy in the University of Coimbra. Felipe was a research fellow at the Oxford University (St. Antony’s College) and at the Counterterrorism and Homeland Security Program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, in Washington DC. He was also a fellow at the Seminar for European Counterterrorism Experts in Israel. Felipe integrates the European Expert Network on Terrorism Issues. Felipe has published in national and international scientific journals. In 2007 he published his first book, on post-Cold War Terrorism (“No Crepúculo da Razão – Considerações Sobre o Terrorismo Pós-Guerra Fria”; Ed. Prefácio, 223p.). In September 2015 he published the second, “Global Jihadism: from Words to Deeds” (Ed. Marcador: 311p.), on jihadi strategic thinking. And he is writing another on political violence, insurgency and terrorism. Felipe is an invited lecturer at the Portuguese Institute of National Defence and at various training courses of the Armed Forces and the Security Services. Dr Eoin O’Dell

Associate Professor of Law at Trinity College Dublin

Dr Eoin O'Dell is an Associate Professor of Law in Trinity College Dublin. He researches and publishes primarily in the fields of freedom of expression, and private and commercial law - and especially where they overlap in IP, IT and cyberlaw. He has been Chair of the Fellows in Trinity College Dublin, President of the Irish Association of Law Teachers, a Member of the Council and Executive of the Society of Legal Scholars in the UK and Ireland, and Editor of the Dublin University Law Journal. He was a member of the group which advised the Department of Justice on the Defamation Act, 2009; he was a member of the Advisory Group on a European Civil Code which advised the EU Commission on common principles of European private law; and he was Chair of the Copyright Review Group which presented its final report to the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation in October 2013. He is a member of the Statute Law Revision Committee advising the Department of Public Service and Reform on the process of revising the Irish Statute Book; and he is a member of the Government Data Forum, established by the Minister of State with responsibility for Data Protection to advise Government on the challenges that arise from the growth in the digital economy.

Liis Vihul is the Chief Executive Officer of Cyber Law International. She also serves as Deputy Chair of the newly founded Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace’s Research Advisory Group, co-editor of the International Humanitarian Law Group in the Manual on International Law Applicable to Military Uses of Outer Space project, and is an Ambassador of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. Previously, she spent 9 years as a senior analyst in the Law and Policy Branch at the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence and was the managing editor of the Tallinn Manual 2.0 on the International Law Applicable to Cyber Operations. Holger Spohn

Born on the 29th of Feb 72 in Karlsruhe, Germany. After attending school, which ended with a high school diploma, I joined the German Air Force. There I made my masters in Electrical Engineering, after that worked in Air Traffic Controlling, from there became an IT officer which led me to the NATO Airborne Early Warning & Control Force Command (AWACS) in SHAPE. I was a Communication officer in the HQ, with the responsibility for frequency management, Air and Ground communication, the Communication Budget of the HQ and related tasks. Once finished, I left the military and I joined SHAPE as a NATO Civilian, working in the Intelligence Division (J2) as a CIS Security Supervisor. Main job functions are inspections, policy development, incident management, security awareness and now Intel Support to the Cyber domain, which is a capability we want to build up for the future. I am also supporting CIS Security responsibilities for our operation on Afghanistan, which right now focuses on Train, Advice and Assist of the AFG security forces.

Lars Hilse

In the field of cyber security, he has privately funded research worth over USD $300.000. The findings resulting thereof have made him a thought leader in cyber crime, cyber terrorism, and cyber warfare/defence. Amongst many other examples, his research successfully predicted the cyber-physical terrorist attack on TV5MONDE in 2015, for which he has been invited to speak about at numerous conferences. As a consequence, and to increase cyber-security for corporations, he joined the Hamburg based specialist insurance brokerage Alster Insurance Brokers (AIB) in 2015 to create the first globally operating cyber-insurance brokerage with a unique concept for cyber-insurance called AIB Cyber Insurance. Her past work includes research conducted at the NATO Co-operative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, as well as with the European Commission, DG Home Affairs where she was part of the European Union negotiating team for the Passenger Name Record agreements between the EU, the United States, Canada and Australia. Mari also worked at the European Organisation for Security as Senior Cybersecurity Policy Manager and was part of the setting up of the European Commission public private partnership on cybersecurity where she is also currently actively participatin in defining the Strategic Research Agenda for Cybersecurity innovation. Raoul Chiesa

Raoul "Nobody" Chiesa was born in Torino, Italy. Glen Grant

Glen Grant is a reform specialist currently working in Ukraine where he is project manager of a UK funded support project for the Ukrainian MOD on reform of their multi million dollar defence housing system. This is a 15 month project ending in November 2017 Glen is resident in Latvia and runs his own consultancy firm GG Consulting. He is also a professional moderator working on conferences and seminars covering every subject from IT security to rehabilitation of sex offenders. He has worked internationally on reform with diverse industries including agriculture and forestry, construction, media, telecoms and call centres. Since 2009 Glen has also worked as a subject matter expert for the US Centre for Civil Military Relations in California on reforming defence and security systems. Klaus Kursawe received his PhD from the University of Saarbruecken in collaboration with the IBM Research in 2001, working on designs of secure dependable systems that today underlie the blockchain technologies. From 2006 till 2010, he headed the “Trusted Systems Cluster” at the Philips Natlab. An addition to working on various platform security projects for Philips products, and started working on security aspect and standards around the ‘Smart Grid’, which he continued after changing to teach at Radboud University. In 2012, he co-founded the European Network for Cybersecurity, an organisation owned and funded by critical infrastructure operators to assist the with security issues around smart grids, where he also worked as the Chief Scientist until 2016. In this context, he was member of several EU and US expert groups on smart grids, developed and performed training programs for grid operators, and was involved in risk analysis, procurement requirement design as well as both the security analysis and security design for smart grid protocols and components. He currently works as an advisor with security companies, critical infrastructure operators and decisionmakers to bring those worlds together on the levels of policy, processes, technology and training.
